On offer here is (what I believe is) a 1969 Benford 4×4 swivelsteer Simple Tech straight tipping dumper of either 2 or 2.5 ton capacity.
Anideal low cost and technically simple machine for the building project ‘self builder…..and my reasonfor purchasing the machine.
Featuring a PetterPH2 2 Cylinder hand start diesel. The motor can be started as a one man operation without using easy start or anyother form of priming. The engine starts at the first attempt 4 times out of 5 andalways on my second attempt. When purchased the machine had been standing unusedfor around 18 months and I managed to crack it up at the second attempt despitebeing unfamiliar with the engine. Being simple theres no battery to worryabout nor starter motor to fail….in fact there are no electrics to worry about at all !
I have not servicedthe engine….an oil and filter change probably wouldn’t go amiss.
I repaired and improved the starting handle to make ‘solo starting’ easy. The handle is now dumpermounted.
The steering and tip system is powered by a common hydraulictank/pump system…..both are fully functional and simple to use with no majorleaks obvious. There is a very minor oil leak to the tip control handle, in my opinion its not worth fixing given the hydraulic oil tank capacity and minor nature of the leak.
The clutch rod linkage needed attention when I acquired the machine and has been properly repaired. Theclutch in essence is a brake drum and shoe set up so mega simple, it now workscorrectly. The 4 wheel drive system is functional.
The dumper has a 4 wheel rod operated brake system which I havenot serviced. The handbrake is of a cable linked to brake rod type. Its connectedand functional however the foot and hand brake (like nearly all old dumpers) are pretty ineffective currently but don’t stop the machine being used if the work site is reasonably level.
The tyresare old, three are of a correct type and pattern. Both front tyres are in OK condition withdecent tread, the left rear has a little tread left but its past its best, the right rear hashad a town and country type tyre fitted which is functional prior to my ownership
All of thewheels/tyres hold air on a long term basis and the rims are in OKcondition if scruffy.
Substantiallythis machine is solid, a bit scruffy but remains very usable with working life left in it. The major plus point over more modern electric start machines is that it can be stored outside, ignored for months and yet will start and be ready for workwhen you need it….as a bonus its unlikely to be a target for thieves.
Delivery. This machine is currently located in North Yorkshire. I can personally deliver the machine to any UK mainland location in which case delivery will be charged at 100/day + 30p/mile. Locations requiring under 8 hours round trip delivery time can be charged at a reduced rate.
VAT will be included within the auction end final value an VAT invoice will be issued
